IgA nephropathy, also known as Berger’s disease and synpharyngitic glomerulonephritis, is a disease in which IgA antibodies are abnormally produced due to an unidentified immune response (most likely in the intestinal tract); the blood stream is flooded with IgA antibodies which are then filtered by the kidneys. The glomeruli (small bundles of capillaries where filtration occurs) become inflammed, and is known as glomerulonephritis.
